In-Depth Review
TXU Energy Company is Texas largest electric energy provider, in terms of number of customers served and size of total electric load. Unfortunately, this does not always translate into lowest price for consumers. The most common product TXU currently served to customers prior to deregulation was known as the "Price to Beat". This was a state regulated rate that was meant to allow competition to flourish when deregulation was in it's infancy.
TXU briefly tried to become an international energy supply company, but with a few balance sheet surprises and a perfect storm of market conditions, TXU was forced to sell it's international operations in the UK, Germany and finally Australia. Many analysts believe that TXU made the right decision in focusing on it's core market in Texas.
TXU Energy is now active in competition, although it is one of the only providers who does not work with electricity professionals such as the membership of TEPA, who's goal is to reduce consumers costs through competition.
While TXU is known to most Texans as a stable, reputable electricity supplier, they are quickly losing ground to other Fortune 500 companies who have entered the Texas market from other regions, states and countries and offer more competitive and flexible pricing. It is estimated that through December 2005, TXU has lost roughly 15 percent of their residential electricity load, 42 percent of their small commercial load and 60 percent of their industrial load.
